Match report
Date : 09/05/2021
Venue : NCG
Result : Newenden won by 65 runs ( Newenden 238-3, Bellhouse 90*, Browning 86, Langton Green 173-7, Harker 2-23, Boland 2-25)
Man of the Match : Mike Bellhouse
Sunday saw Newenden continue their winning streak with a convincing victory over Langton Green.
Having dispatched Wittersham in the first game of the Wealden Wallop on a wet Tuesday evening, following great performances with the bat from Jim Piper and Chris Thomson-Frost and Harry Bradney and Chirag Patel with the ball, we returned to our more usual format of a 40 over match.
Having won the toss we opted to bat. It was an experimental opening pair of Edwards and Patel, one which we hoped to be Newenden's answer to Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow, unfortunately they turned out to be more Clare Foy and Eric Bristow. Edwards skying an early delivery with only four on the board, then Patel following suit a couple of overs later.
This brought Bellhouse and Browning together who proceeded to share a partnership of 188 for the third wicket. They milked the bowlers at will, displaying their full range of shots. Browning finally fell with just two balls left. Tom Carr dispatched the final ball for four which left us on 238-3 at the interval.
Langton Green's reply started badly, with Smith and Edwards snaring their opening pair. This brought the Langton Green captain to the crease who always scores runs against us and today was to be no different. Debutant Joe Bates picked up their number three during a very decent spell from the Pavilion End. The opposition then had a fifty partnership and were going along quite well, but were always off the rate. Following a decent spell from Bellhouse, Harker was introduced to the fray. This would prove to be key as he had their danger man stumped by Kelvin Hills for 80 in his second over. Boland then joined the party picking up a couple of late wickets, which meant the Langton innings stuttered through to 173-7 from their allocation.
Always a fun game, we get on well with the Langton boys.
This weekend we return to league action, home to Kingsnorth, let's hope we can keep the winning run going.
