Two significant cricket matches took place on Sunday, one was a little more exciting than the other.
Newenden rocked into Bislington looking for a quick and professional victory and this was achieved in record time.
Having lost the toss (there's a surprise) we were put into the field. This exposed the opposition to our potent opening bowlers of Rummery and Piper, very much Newenden's answer to Archer and Woakes. They were both far too much for Bilsington and had taken the first four wickets in no time. Bradney then joined in and helped himself to another brace, which included a very sharp slip catch by Browning.
Smith then took over from Piper and mopped up the tail, taking 3-10 from three overs. This still left time for 'Womble' Boland to take the final wicket with the first ball of his spell, following a decent catch by the returning Carr.
Bilsington were all out for 52 from just 19 overs.
We didn't break for tea, we went straight out to bat. We wanted to wrap things up quickly, which didn't help with Morris falling cheaply, but this brought Browning to the crease, who was clearly in the mood. He smashed 47* not out from about 20 balls and the game was over after 6 overs.
Another emphatic victory and a good boost to our net run rate, which could be the deciding factor when it comes down to who finishes top this season.
We go to Little Chart next week with a much changed side. I hope the result will be the same.
