Sunday saw the annual renewal of the grudge match with Biddenden. This was the fourth occasion the game had taken place with Newenden leading 2-1 in the series. This was soon to become 2-2.

Having lost the toss, Newenden were put into the field and were at an immediate disadvantage as Collingwood and Bromfield were still travelling back from a speed dating event, hosted by the young farmers association of Herefordshire, suffice to say they were missed more on the pitch than they will be in Herefordshire.

Biddenden started well, with their openers depositing the ball to all parts, they had raced through to 67 before Smith got his man, clean bowling Jim Piper for 31 in the 8th over. Smith shuffled his pack, but didn't look like getting a breakthrough until a freak dismissal. Patel middled the ball straight back to bowler Browning, who went for the catch, but was unable to hold it, but in doing so diverted the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker's end. Morris had to start the long walk back to the pavilion much to the delight of the Newenden side.

Patel was still motoring and the score had rattled through to 172 before he was caught in the deep off the bowling of Sam Piper. Biddenden continued to pile on the runs, with some useful middle order contributions, particularly from Spry with a stylish 45. Collingwood then joined the fray and made quick work of mopping up the tail, finishing with 4-18 from 4.5 overs. Biddenden had registered a decent target of 230.

After considerable abuse of the tea supplied by the opposing captain, Newenden began their chase.

They started brightly, with Durtnell and Harker looking assured against the Biddenden openers. This lead to the introduction of Bradney who soon accounted for Durtnell. He then picked up two further wickets in the next few overs leaving Newenden floundering at 55-3.

Newenden hopes now rested with Browning and Collingwood, but they were both dismissed cheaply, Browning caught behind off Edwards and Collingwood clean bowled by Omar, after surviving a controversial not out decision. Newenden then lost their final few wickets for not very many and were all out for 111.

It was a great day, played in the right spirit. We look forward to taking the field again next season.
