After a washout and a no-show it was great to get cricket back at the NCG. The weather had threatened to stop us in our tracks, but in the end we were able to get a full days play in.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, Newenden started well enough before Morris fell for 14, playing all round a swinging delivery. Jasper Piper then came to the crease, his stay was short lived, leaving us wobbling at 29-2. Collingwood looked solid, as he and Sloan began to regroup, before he played on for a good looking 6. We were suddenly in trouble and posting a decent target seemed a long way off. Jim Piper came in with the score at 43-3, and added some calm to the proceedings.

With Sloan anchoring the innings at the other end, Piper began to play some shots and they had taken us through to 83 before Piper popped back a caught and bowled chance, which she took very well. Will Simpson smashed a few boundaries, adding useful runs, as did Atherton, taking us through 154-6. Our lower order all chipped in, including a crowd-pleasing cameo from Holland, which saw us through to 182 All Out at the interval.

After a splendid collaborative tea, which included some exceptional sandwiches from Bradney, Boland and Simpson, and a beautiful victoria sandwich from Mrs Sloan, we took to the field.

Bradney settled into a beautiful rhythm, bowling his best spell of the season so far, causing their openers all kinds of trouble. Smith was nibbling away at the other end, and picked up his customary wicket in his first over, with a stumping from Sloan. Their number three rode his luck for a while, and enjoyed playing his shots, but Smith got his man, following a great catch from Boland (we won't mention the drop earlier). Smith continued to take wickets at regular intervals, and ended up with figures of 5-39 from his eight overs, including three wicket maidens. Bradney picked up a well deserved wicket from the other end, and then Boland and Jasper Piper joined the party picking up two and one wicket, respectively, with the help of some sharp fielding from Collingwood and Atherton. Catsfield were All Out for 85.

It was a fun game, where we all chipped in, and once again the strength of our squad was shown.

Next up we have Tonbridge away, which I feel will be a slightly tougher challenge.
