Captain :
Ian Jones
Jonesy enjoying his second season as NCC Skipper joined the club 10 years ago. 1000's of runs later is going from strength to strength. Always prone to a Harvest time wobble with the odd pair recorded in the book. Now deeply imbedded in the club, in his 4th year as Captain of the very sucessful indoor team, [no longer missing the Campbells], Committee member and part of the Youth coaching academy. Looking forward to a very promising season and bamboozling the opposition with his erratic runup but blindingly accurate outswingers.
Vice Captain :
Tim Piper
Always guaranteed to open the batting and bowl the most overs, Tim is one of the clubs most valuable players of the last twenty years. With a robust batting technique yielding numerous hundreds over the years and left arm swing bowling complimented by a fiery, competitive streak, Tim has often been compared to the legendary Wasim Akram. Furthermore, his theatrical performances in the field led to the coining of the prevalent “Timothy Piper School of Ballet” phrase. Tim stole the show at the 2008 annual dinner where he picked up the prestigious Jack Seymour trophy, the Olly Cripps bowling cup and the Village cricketers Car of the Year having treated himself to a Porsche Boxster following an image makeover in 2007.

James Bennett
Played professional cricket from the age of 3 to 5 years old. Forced to retire due to drugs and women. Coached cricket in Madagascar, Chad and Hull. Bowling philosophy: Without line and length you have the element of surprise. Cat like qualities in the field. Fish out of water like qualities at the crease. Best figures: Original He-Man and Skeletor c.1983.
Jonathan Bourne
Used to be part of the furniture at the NCG but recent outings for the 1st XI limited owing to penchant for the bright lights of London. A punchy all rounder, bowling aggressive off spin which troubles even the finest village top order. Batting can be very effective once set - akin to Australias flamboyant all-rounder Andrew Symonds - is vulnerable in the early part of his innings and ruthless in the latter. Good motivator in the field. One for the purists. Nemisis of Frank 'The Trigger' Cooke. Awards: Cock of the year 1996-2009.
Peter Bourne
Universally known as PB, Peter has played over 4,000 games for Newenden. Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1968, PB famously scored an unbeaten 49 at Lords. Having given up the captaincy in 2005 following 43 years in charge, PB now focuses his energies on the tireless role of Head Groundsman. Whether unleashing a flowing cover drive, bowling underrated slow left-arm chinamen or yelping in anticipation of the approaching cricket ball, PB is the pure embodiment of Newenden Cricket Club.

George Campbell
One of Newendens most famous cricketers. After being scouted by Sussex after a remarkable unbeaten hundred against Pett, George went onto represent his county at 2nd XI level and the MCC Board XI. A powerful left handed strokesman hit his NCC peak in the 1990's, before being offered a 6 figure salary from Hastings Priory. Reluctantly agreed to sever romantic ties with local female population to chase his cricketing dream. Now lives in Switzerland as Gamesmaster and Head of Cricket and is skipper of the G&H Campbell XI.
Harry Campbell
Burst onto the scene at the age of 12 as Udimores wildchild, with elaborate hitting and fiesty medium pace. One of only 3 people to clear the river at the NCG, Harry is a most destructive cricketer. Since the halcyon days of the late 1990's, where the rock 'n roll lifestyle rather affected his concentration, Harry has steadily matured into a fine all rounder. Never one to hide emotion, its hit out or get out.
Tom Carr
Nigel Collison
Frank Cooke
Along with son Matthew, changed allegiances from Winchelsea CC owing to retirement from the game after shoulder injury. In his heyday, used the long handle in his own inimitable style and according to cricketing legend once cleared the pavilion at the Nursery Ground at Lords. A fine wicketkeeper, where cumulative byes at WCC between 1970 and 1999 were in single figures, now plies his trade as resident umpire at NCC. Pulled up by the ICC in 2005 for claims of match fixing, rarely gives LBW decisions and is strict advocate of time keeping. Never without Panama Hat, clump of 2 penny coins and trendy boat shoes, is a key part of the clubs infrastructure.
Matthew Cooke
Been with the club since 2000 after transfer from local rivals Winchelsea CC. Valuable addition to both the on field and off field development of the club. Belligerent top order batsman with potential to destroy oppositions bowling attacks. Not too shabby gloveman - room for improvement many would say. Reluctant to offer bowling services with erratic line and length and non ability to get decisions in his favour with umpiring connections. Jack Seymour Cup Winner 2005 and 2006

Oliver Cripps
A name synonymous with NCC. Oli first played for Newenden at the tender age of 11 months against Northiam away and took home Man of the Match. Famous for left arm off spin, with unorthodox runup and delivery stride. Is Newendens second highest wicket taker, and now matured into a very powerful batsman, topping the averages in the 2006 season after maiden NCC hundred - one of the classiest innings ever played on the holy turf. 2008 could see something special happen at the NCG and Crippo will no doubt be not far from the front line.
Winston Cuthbert
Winston is passionate and exuberant in the field and his deceptively wayward off-spin a feather in the cap of the NCC bowling attack. As a smash-and-grab No. 7 he can be trusted to hit the odd boundary when called upon to bat. Always keen for extra practice he is often seen cajoling the team into a catching and fielding session post-tea, much to the chagrin of his cake-loving vice-captain.

Justin Lyon-Taylor
Top class ringer. Scored 100 on NCC debut. Tidy gloveman
OJ Martin
Ever willing to step in, OJ is a dashing opening batsmen and enthusiastic fielder. OJ proudly belongs to an elite group of players who have been dismissed off the first ball of the innings. Not a bad achievement considering he has only played 4 times for NCC.
Will May
Left handed opening bat with a penchant for testing the off side field. Vulnerable early on, particularly to lbw dismissals. Used to bowl but has never recovered from an onset of the yips in 2000. Reliable snaffler at second base in the office.
Will was a proud winner of the Campbell cup for batting in 2004.

Ian Picton
Metronomic medium pace opening bowler. Prefers coming down the hill, Pickers over the years has completed the most number of wicketless bowling spells. Arrived from Vinehall School as an all rounder who brought a new spice to traditional cricketing techniques. Exemplary attitude to the game, is a reliable lower order batsman and a superb fine leg to mid on fielder. Also famed for perfect timing at the bar - ie about 2 minutes after you got there and ordered your round.

I have been playing cricket for the last 6 years in school teams and for Newenden CC youth section. I am currently in the U15A's at Cranbrook School where I've been doing more bowling than batting!

Freddie Plugge
Freddie is 14 in August 2011. He is a keen cricketer/sportsman and is currently playing for the 1st eleven in his last term at Saint Ronans School, before joining Eastbourne College in September.
Freddie is more a bowler and a fielder than a batsmen. He would welcome the chance to play in the seniors when available.
Family member since 2008 along with his younger brothers Finley (11) and Archie (8).
James Presland
James is a student at Sutton Valence School and is a product of the Club's policy of encouraging younger players into the Sunday team. He made his debut in the 2006 season, playing more often in 2007 and 2008. Primarily a bowler, he has now started to pick up wickets on a regular basis, finishing 2nd in the bowling averages for 2008 and winning the club's Young Player of the Year Award. He will try harder with the bat in future.

Peter Presland
Although he has been a Club Vice-President for many years, Peter has only been a playing member for the last season or two, in order to fullfil an ambition to play in the same side as his sons. From 1965, he played cricket for a number of clubs, batting at No.2 and keeping wicket (he cannot bowl), finally achieving a life-time dream to play on the hallowed Lord's pitch in 2000 at the age of 50. Having "filled out" a bit in later life, he is more likely, in his whites, to be used as a sight-screen in the seasons ahead. Proud recipient of the 2007 Chairman's Special Award in Feb 2008.
Family member
William Presland
Like his elder brother, William is also a pupil at Sutton Valence School and is again a product of the Club's progressive youth policy. He made his debut in 2007, earning a man-of-the-match award for his innings against Bells Yew Green in his first season.

Guy Rummery
The heartbeat of all things Newenden. Guy, NCC's most prolific all rounder, made his debut in 1967 as a timid, but hard working 5 year old. Guy has rescued the club on many an occasion, once claiming a hatrick on the last 3 balls of the innings to snatch victory at Crowhurst. Heavy hitting, can turn a poor batting score into a very very good one. Wily off spin, with intelligent changes of pace, Guy is always up there with the top wicket takers and averages to match. Takes huge pride in immaculately prepared wickets and outfield when 125 hour working weeks allow. Useful fielder at point with pinpoint arm. A most loyal servant to the club.
Karl Rummery
Since his debut as a 5 foot 6 three year old, Karl has not only grown but grown into one of Newendens most reliable cricketers. Inheriting the family cricketing brain, everpresent Karl is the first name on any teamsheet. Batting at 4, Karl is slowly beginning to accumulate some decent scores and this season should see the full repertoire of his ability. Unorthodox bowling action, is prone to dropping it short and figures don't do justice to his talent. NCC's specialist cover point has the longest arm in Kent and apparently once returned a throw which carried to Tenterden. Never shy with opposition tea ladies, Karl is steadily filling the boots of ex Newenden playboy Harry Campbell. Enjoys playing badminton for Kent in his spare time.
Matt Rummery
William Sibree
truly great cricketer
Garry Smith
Oliver Swift
Another graduate of the NCC Academy. Swifty, a local lad, produced one of the most incredible opening spells of swing bowling against Sandhurst in 2007. Never has a Newenden field seen 5 slips and 3 gullies and this is testament to Swifty's raw talent. Happy to sit down the order and wait for pub opening time, has potential to develop into a key part of NCC's 'Stars of the future' programme. One to watch in 2008.
Oliver Taylor
Peter Traill
A Newenden legend. Playing days sadly over owing to well publicised leg injury which is thankfully now behind him. Over the years Peters array of shots have entertained crowds, ruined bowling figures, and lost many a new ball. Once one half of the NCC opening partnership with Peter Bourne, PT averaged 500 runs a season over a 25 year playing career. More happy in the slips than marking out his run up, Peter was never shy in the field specialising in the cover region as long as Karl Rummery wasn't far away. Never without a pint of Level Best, plays an important role on the Committee.
Sam Traill
Having played at Newenden since the age of 4, Sam is a dogged middle order batsman and an accomplished leg spin bowler. With the ability to turn the ball at significant pace, Sam has an exceptional record bowling to left handers, particularly members of the Cripps family. Although a more than able stand-in, Sam’s captaincy skills have been curtailed through his propensity to not let anyone else bowl.
Chris Turnbull
Pavilion Manager House and Grounds Committee Welfare Officer
Thady Voorspuy
Right Arm Medium, middle lower order slogger.
Only 1 outing for NCC, opening the bowling with a tight line and length spell. Had a rather disappointing season last year but was lacking peak fitness and hopes to be back in full shape this year after an extensive winter fitness regime.
Nick Waterhouse
Jonty Webb
One of the success stories to come out of Crippo's academy
Nick Welchman
Neil White
Will White
Classy left hand top order batsman. Strong off front foot with exceptional straight bat, with majority of runs accumulated through the 'V'. Unfortunate tendancy to lose concentration after getting a start. Can offer mix and match medium pace but often prefers the banter in the gulley region. Took a much criticised season out to lie on beaches in Mexico but there are high hopes of him putting in some performances in 2008.
