Man of the Match : Dan Edwards

That's how you win a derby.
It's always good to put one over your noisy neighbours and after we were beaten in the Wealden Wallop earlier in the season we were keen to put the record straight, and that we did.

Having lost the toss we were put into the field. Things started well with Finn Piper picking up an early wicket, following a sharp catch by Bellhouse at short cover. Northiam had pushed through to 49 before Edwards took a wicket with the first ball of his spell. Bradney then joined in by taking a good caught bowled to leave them wobbling at 59-3.

Their number five had different plans and set out his intentions with some clean striking from ball one. He and their number three began to rebuild and had put on 60 odd before the skipper threw the ball to young Durtnell. He began to bamboozle the batsmen with his leg spin, beating the bat on several occasions. He finally got his wicket, trapping their number three LBW. He then picked up their other danger man with the ball of the day. The batsmen played all round a turning a delivery, which pitched outside leg and clipped the top of off. Beautiful ball.

Bellhouse was containing things from the other end and was very unlucky to not get a wicket for his efforts. Finn Piper came back on and ripped through their tail finishing up with 4-18. Bradney was not to be denied either, taking the final two wickets in the final over. Leaving Northiam on 182, which looked a very competitive total.

We then experienced the rather surreal event of an actual cricket tea, our first for two years. It was a joy to sit out on the field basked in sunshine, all together, enjoying a superb spread laid on by the local pub.

A little fuller and a little fatter, we then set about our reply. Morris and Edwards opened up and after a circumspect start they began to open up and had taken the score through to 75 before Morris fell for 22. Jim Piper strode to the crease but returned the very next ball, this brought the scourge of Northiam, Ben Browning to the middle.

This is where things really started to get going. After all the wet weather, we began to witness a very different kind of rain, this time it was raining sixes as Dan Edwards began one of the most destructive displays of power hitting you could hope to see. He had raced through to his ton within 20 overs and the Northiam skipper was struggling to find anyone willing to bowl. Unbelievably this was Dan's first ton ever and it was celebrated in true style by his team mates.Hopefully the first of many.

Browning still managed to put his mark on the game hitting the winning runs with two consecutive sixes with over 13 overs to spare.

It was a magnificent performance by the side and particularly by Dan. Well done mate.
