What a difference a week makes.

Apologies for the lack of a match report last week, I was not feeling my best, no connection to the loss at Bishopsbourne, though I am sure it had an effect.

A fired up Newenden resumed normal service on Sunday, decimating a shell-shocked Harrietsham side and getting our league campaign back on track in the process.

The first mistake the visitors made was winning the toss and electing to bat. A fresh Rummery is a daunting prospect for most division one openers, never lone those in division five. He was bowling with some real venom and hitting some great areas, which included the batsman's toe, thigh and chest. Smith was first to breakthrough, with Morris taking a sharp chance at silly mid-on, very much a collector's item. Smith then picked up another , clean bowling the other opener.

Rummery then joined the party, trapping their number four plumb in front, leaving Harrietsham floundering at 18-3. This lead to the introduction of Bradney, and what an introduction it was. He was mixing up his length beautifully (or so he claimed) and had the batsmen all kinds of trouble. He took the next five wickets in a row, including two good catches from Browning and finished off with a Sloan special behind the stumps. The figures for his spell read 7 overs, 3 maidens, 5 wickets for 8 runs. Welcome to the Honours Board Bradders, long overdue.

Jasper Piper still had time to get in on the act and picked up their last man with a viscious leg stump yorker. Harrietsham were all out for 88.

I am fast running out of superlatives for our teas. The standard of which is incredible and Sunday's was no exception. This time it was the turn of the Rummerys. We were treated toa sumptious selection of sandwiches and baguettes, including egg mayo and crispy bacon, brie and cranberry and the timeless classic, ham and cheese. We had an amazing array of savouries, which included some very tasty pork and apple sausage rolls. The baked offerings were something else, with four different types of cupcakes, each with their own cricket themed motif and topped off with a NCC branded victoria sandwich. It was a veritable feast. I also witnessed a first at the NCG with the opposition over paying for the tea. Thank you to Joy, Jade and her Mum, a superb effort.

Keen to return to the tea counter we made quick work of our chase, smashing 91 from 9.4 overs, with some impressive stroke play from Browning and Sloan.

It was an emphatic victory that sets us up nicely for the arrival of Frittenden, who I feel will be a more challenging prospect.

Hopefully see you all down the NCG soon.
