Tenterden CC 2nd XI v Newenden Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 05 Jun 2016 at 2:00pm
Newenden Cricket Club Won by 84 runs

Match report Man of the Match : Karl Rummery
The success of the Sunday 1st team continued with an emphatic victory of local rivals Tenterden, making it five out of five for the season so far.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Newenden made heavy weather of the first twenty overs, creeping to 59-3. The Tenterden attack bowled tightly and made the most of what was proving to be an unpredictable wicket. The loss of the fourth wicket brought Charlie Sloan to the crease and with him came some much need impetus.
Batting in partnership with Karl Rummery, they began to take on the Tenterden field, pushing runs and continually rotating the strike, and in doing so wrestled back the momentum for Newenden. The pair had taken us through to 128-4 at the thirty over point, at which stage Rummery came to the fore. Showing a respectful disdain for the attack, he started to deposit the ball to all corners of the ground, in fact one of his five 6's, nearly wiped out the away spectators, with Garry Smith's father having to take evasive action to avoid being knocked clean out.
Tenterden were struggling for ideas, so turned to their Saturday 1st team opening bowler, but Sloan and Rummery continued to attack and push for every run. Sloan finally fell for a valiant 50 in the final over, and Rummery went on to smash the final ball of the innings for four, which brought up his maiden ton for the club. The pair had put on 155 in a little over 20 overs, and had taken Newenden through to 228-5 at tea.
Facing an intimidating run chase, Tenterden showed little intention of taking on the challenge, and it seemed that the draw was the best that they could hope for. Opening bowlers, Harry Bradney and Finn Piper bowled beautifully in tandem, restricting runs and building the pressure. Piper picked up both openers with his new brand of sharp off-spin. Just as the Tenterden batting line-up were hoping for a little respite, Rummery came on first change from the top end, and this is where the Tenterden innings truly collapsed. Rummery bowling a fiery yet disciplined spell, ripped out their middle order, picking up 4-23 from his six overs. Throughout the Tenterden innings, Newenden fielded superbly, chasing down every ball, looking to save every run, special mention must go to Adam Piper who seemed to be continually in the action, and young Harry Gutteridge who had stepped in a sub-fielder after his father, Richard, sustained an injury whilst batting.
With any chance of a win now long gone,Tenterden set about frustrating the Newenden attack, with very few shots being played, mainly down to the tightness of the bowling. Garry Smith bowled 10 overs that only went for 20 runs, and was very unlucky not to take at least a couple of wickets, mainly due to some sloppy slip catching. Ollie Swift also chipped in with a very economic little spell.
Harry Bradney returned to the attack and finally got the breakthrough we needed, bring a halt to the stubborn resistance of the eighth wicket partnership. The final two wickets fell soon after, one to the returning Charlie Harker, and fittingly the final one to Rummery, leaving him with figures of 5-31. Karl's all-round performance will long live in the memory.
A tremendous win, and the side once again showed it's strength in depth. Things are looking good for the side at the moment, long may it continue. Roll on next week.
