Along with son Matthew, changed allegiances from Winchelsea CC owing to retirement from the game after shoulder injury. In his heyday, used the long handle in his own inimitable style and according to cricketing legend once cleared the pavilion at the Nursery Ground at Lords. A fine wicketkeeper, where cumulative byes at WCC between 1970 and 1999 were in single figures, now plies his trade as resident umpire at NCC. Pulled up by the ICC in 2005 for claims of match fixing, rarely gives LBW decisions and is strict advocate of time keeping.
